IN THE FURTHERENCE OF SCIENTIFIC COMMUNICATION

A bit of silliness –your assistance requested!

David and I have been taking an interest in International Journalistic Scientific Units.

These include such things as ‘London Buses’, ‘The Width of a Human Hair’, ‘Olympic Sized Swimming Pools’ and so on.

For pure silliness, we’d like to collect as many of these as possible, with precise definitions. For instance, how much water does an Olympic Sized Swimming Pool contain? What is the mean distance from here to the moon, and where is it measured from?

If the readers of this appeal could take mental note when one of these crops up, and forward it, we’d like to produce the definitive list. We could then make a presentation video with the presenter walking towards the camera, elbows by the side jerking hands and head in the established spastic broadcasting manner. (We could even include some raised eyebrows and utterly irrelevant verbal emphasis.)

Cheers
